European Regional Development Fund
The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) is a European Commission funding instrument for all regions of Europe, which aims at reducing development disparities.
The ERDF addresses the needs of the regions. They use this offer of operational programmes to overcome region-specific structural weaknesses. Among the European regions, Thuringia is one of the so-called transitional regions and must therefore invest 60% of the fund's resources in the following key prorities: research and development, support for small and medium-sized enterprises and the reduction of CO2 emissions in all sectors of the economy.
The Free State of Thuringia will receive around 1.088 billion euros from the ERDF in the 2021-2027 funding period.
