Priority 3 – Reduction of CO₂ emissions
Around 40% of total CO2 emissions arise in the building sector, including publicly owned properties and buildings. Therefore, on the one hand, the primary energy demand here must be reduced to a minimum, and the percentage of renewable energies consumed in public buildings and infrastructure must be substantially increased. At the same time, public heating grids play a central role in Thuringia’s heat supply, which is expected to increase in the future. Heating grids contribute to a resource-efficient and climate-friendly heat supply. The heat to be distributed should be generated with low CO₂ or contain an appropriate percentage of renewable energies or waste heat. Existing heating grids must be prepared and adapted for this. Simultaneously, there are plans to newly construct, convert, expand, and densify new and existing heating grids using intelligent storage devices and sector coupling.
