Priority 6 – Sustainable and integratet urban development
The spatially balanced and sustainable development of cities and regions is of primary importance for cohesion across the European Union. Cities are home and urban surroundings to those leading their lives here. They are the centres of social, cultural, and economic life and thus contribute to forming people’s identities, regardless of their respective size. Whilst vibrant, attractive cities are the centres of social, economic, and cultural life, they are at the same time both foundation and cornerstone of regional development. Cities increasingly have to face new challenges to improve the ecological quality of life, conserve natural resources, and deal with the consequences of climate change.
