Topping out Ceremony for the new Campus at Inselplatz in Jena
Since the laying of the foundation stone of the new "Campus am Inselplatz" in Jena in September 2020, the largest University building project in Thuringia has now reached its next milestone. On the 25th of April 2022, the topping out ceremony was celebrated in the presence of numerous guests. The "Campus Inselplatz" encompasses several new University buildings. These include the Psychology Institute, the Mathematics and Computer Science Faculty, the "Natural Sciences and Preclinical" sections of the Thuringian University and State library, a cafeteria, as well as the new University computing centre. In addition to this a multi-story car park is being erected by the city of Jena.
Around 190 million euros are being invested into the building of the entire new campus. 81 million euros of this come from the co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The remainder comes from national co-funding, consisting of state and federal funds and proceeds from the sale of state properties that are vacated. The University Computing Centre and the Mathematics and Computer Science Faculty are due to be completed at the end of 2023 while the rest of the campus buildings at the Inselplatz are expected to reach completion by 2024/2025.
