Rural Community Buttstädt – preservation order compliant renovation of town hall

The west wing renovation of Buttstädt’s town hall is one of the projects currently funded by ERDF Thuringia. In the process, the preservation of historic building stock is of utmost importance. The impressive, renaissance style building, which is listed as “historic”, is located at the market square, right in the city centre. Once the renovation works are completed, the west wing will host a medical centre. The primary concern is to provide the inhabitants of Buttstädt with accessible medical care in the heart of the town. Thus, the town centre becomes busier and more colourful, whilst, at the same time, urban infrastructure and quality of life are being enhanced.

The Thuringian Forest is criss-crossed by a dense network of watercourses. The source streams (Krenal) and upper streams (Epirhithral) of the mostly narrow forest streams are home to many adapted organisms such as fire salamanders, spring damsels and western bullheads.

Beavers are among the strictly protected species. Their presence has an important effect on water ecosystems since species-rich and structurally rich habitats begin to originate wherever beavers settle. Since 2007, the beaver has become native again to Thuringia. The beaver population has constantly been growing ever since, and gradually the rodents have populated more and more waters in the Free State.
