Froeb-Verpackungen GmbH (Packaging)

Innovation and creativity have long been vital traits for advanced package solutions. Apart from just protecting its contents, packaging or advertising material made of cardboard is meant to attract attention and/or inform. Hence, smart cardboard packaging is used - optionally including either an illumination or visualization function. However, the drawback of these products is that they simply do not meet the sustainability requirements in most cases.

Froeb Verpackungen (Froeb packaging), a company focused on the sustainable use of resources, decided to find an environmentally friendly solution for the problem and thus started their current project. Therefore, the company, which has a long-standing tradition, is currently developing a technological platform for manufacturing recyclable printed circuit boards for cardboard packaging with integrated lighting technology.

The entire electronic system, including circuit elements with a complex structure and low-power diodes, is printed on a paper or cardboard base as part of the manufacturing process. Criteria that play an important role next to recyclability are, among other things, moisture resistance, heat and cold resistance, physiological harmlessness, and cleanability.
